CHAPTER 2

INTRODUCTION TO MAYA

We’ll walk through installation of Maya, Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine, followed by a guided tour of Maya’s interface, essential panels, and modeling toolkits. You’ll learn about the Outliner, transform tools, and poly modeling basics, as well as how to use deformers, curves, and UV editors effectively. By the end, you’ll be ready to navigate confidently and start building your first 3D forms.

CHAPTER 3

CHARACTER MODELING - PART 1

Here, the real creation begins. You’ll start by setting up image planes to serve as blueprints for your character, then move into sculpting and shaping within Maya. Step by step, you’ll create the base mesh for each main section: face, torso, legs, arms, hands, and shoes. Emphasis is placed on proportion, silhouette, and efficient modeling practices to prepare for later refinement. You’ll gain hands-on experience sculpting directly in Maya and managing edge flow as the form evolves.

CHARACTER MODELING - PART 2

This chapter covers the crucial process of retopology. Using Maya’s Quad Draw and modeling tools, you’ll rebuild your mesh to achieve clean, optimized topology suitable for animation. You’ll work through each section - face, torso, arms, legs, and shoes - learning to place loops strategically for smooth deformation and easy rigging. The focus here is precision and efficiency, turning your sculpt into a production-ready model.

SUBSTANCE PAINTER

Now it’s time to bring your model to life through color and material.
